French Legere Unit

It didn't take too long but doing all that white lace was a pain! These are Old Glory Young Guard figures. I saw these on Paul's 'Napoleonics in Miniature' blog and I thought they looked good. I wanted a legere unit all with plumes and these seemed a good way of doing it, they also have the short gaiters which gives them a 'light' infantry look to them. The old glory figures are good but the best units are generally made of AB figures, these allow excellent painting results(even by me!) but sadly are a bit too expensive these days (what? -three price increases in a few months). I guess the bulk of my infantry will be Old Glory and the cavalry by AB.

I composed them with the command base and two others as Chassuers and the fourth stand as carabiniers. The voltiger stands will be the smaller bases with two figures. I've yet to buy these guys.

The flag is by AB, usually I download and printoff the free WarFlags.

I based them the usual way using 'no more nails'  and  different sizes of scatter but didn't use the grassy tufts - just hairy grass scatter this time.

  1. Very Nice Ken,
You have made a fine job of these guys. I know how tricky they are having cleaned and painted them myself.

I know what you mean with the AB prices! For my Russian cavalry regiments I have 35 figures to buy!! Have taken to selling my unwanted figures on ebay to raise extra AB purchasing funds.

    best regards

  2. Cheers Paul, watch out with ebay it's easy to get carried away - I don't want you selling a kidney to raise an army!

  3. :-) Yeah I know what you mean Ken,

Had my 1st bad experience yesterday!
Got totally stung, sent an item to Europe and heard nothing from the guy contacted him twice to see if it had arrived as all the other items I sent arrived the week before, the guy said he would get back to me when it did. opened up my ebay to see I had a case to answer! "Item undelivered, contacted me with not response!! buyer would prefer a full refund!!!" Unbelievable so it's signed for internationally from now on!
Sorry for the rant Ken, it may help others though.
    Regards
    Paul

  4. Ouch! Sorry to hear that. The signed-for option costs a bit more but takes a lot of the hassle out of it. So far I've only bought 3-4 items and sold nothing yet.

  5. I was a buyer only too for ages but after I bought the Russians I am painting at the moment I decided I had to start getting shot of the stuff I was never going to paint or use.

Your army is coming along really well by the way! Would be nice to see it all laid out for the camera.
    Regards

  6. Yeah, thats a good idea. I've not bothered so far because its such a small army, mind you only the light cavalry would be complete with a command base and artillery.

    Regards

    Ken
