AB Austrian Command

I hope you all had a great Christmas with your families and Santa filled your socks with goodies.

Just as the title says these are the figures from the AB Austrian command set. Five command bases with Archduke Charles on the big base (four figures), the others can represent division or corps commanders. These are my first 15mm figures in some months now, so I have yet to get into 15mm painting mode, the faces are notably not as well executed as I would have liked.

All I need now are some Austrians for them to command!

Perry Command and men-at-arms

Here we have the WotR perry command set (Henry Tudor), I didn't like the HYW sets for the French so decided to get this one. I am not too happy with the faces, and had several attempts to repaint them with no joy. The flag is the Oriflamme (Golden Flame), the battle flag of France which was housed in the Cathedral of St Dennis and was periodically brought out for war - at Agincourt it was lost in the battle. This  one I printed out from WarFlags and painted over.

The last seven of my Front Rank men-at-arms are also completed, I converted one into a flag bearer - the arms of the Duke of Brabant (flag by Maverick models). The flags I've chosen all have the Fleur-de-lis, so the troops they are assigned to can be instantly identified as my French!

Well, thats the last of my HYW figures, I'll order some more in the New Year and now it's back to 15mm Napoleonics.

Front Rank Men At Arms

Just painted up and based 12 MAA, the Front Rank figures are really nice and easy to paint. I painted the shields by hand rather than transfers, I think I've done a reasonable paint job and getting the hang of fleur-de-lis. The figures are a mixture of spear and sword carrying gentlemen.

Here we have from left to right: two unknown knights, the Count of Nevers and the Count of Roucy (his is supposed to be a blue lion rampant!)
From L-R: The Count of Fauquemberges, the Duke of Bourbon, Count of Eu and Viscount of Breteuil.

From L-R: The Duke of Alecon, Lord of Beausmesnil, Lord of Rambures and The Count of Vaudemont.

Now for some groups shots with flash on.

Pike & Shotte Game

I took a few photos of a Pike and Shotte game myself and Ian had organized. This was a dry run for a game next week. The rules seemed more streamlined than Beneath The Lily Banner as the troops could march reasonable distances (6in for inf and 9in for cavalry), however depending on your command die role for the brigade you can do up to three moves at once. So the troops can really glide along and make contact! Taking three moves does forbid you from shooting. I never got to fire my artillery due to out of range and masking my own guns. The artillery is only really worth bothering with at short range.

The figures are our 28mm WSS, mine are Imaginations but with French flags! Ian's are Austrians with the correct flags! My apologies for the quality of the pics but what with the bad light in the hall and my shaky hands nothing better can be expected.

A lot a bad dice throwing and neglect to fire a volley before I went in to melee led to the destruction of my army. We managed to do quite a bit in the three and bit hours (6:30-10:00). So definitely, thumbs up for Pike and shotte.

setting up, all my troops on table
 Ians troops
We took it in turns to place our brigades

My casualties! Six routed regiments.

Perry Crossbow men for Lion Rampant

Here are 12 crossbow from the Perry Brothers, I painted these as a militia type unit so they are more uniform than the Pavaisers I painted up the other week. They are based on 20mm MDF bases with tufts of grass. I had to use the flash on these and the results are not that pleasing, maybe I should have waited for natural light but that would have meant hanging on until the weekend!

Front Rank Men at Arms - Lion Rampant

They are quite good figures to paint with plenty of detail. These six represent my first men-at-arms, four of them are in fact the HYW personality set consisting of the (left to right) Duke of Orleans, the Marshal, the Constable and Guichard Dauphin (Master of the Kings Household). The two on the end are men-at-arms. I used Citadel Six shield transfers on these guys (identifying them as Lords Crequy and Dampierre) and also the surcoat badges on the Marshal. I did however, paint the shield of Dauphin. I painted up two standard bearers, one for the Constable and the other is for the Count of Eu. All are based on 20mm (I used 25mm on the Pavasiers) MDF bases. Flags are by Maverick Models.

Battered Markers for Lion Rampant

These are Foundry figures (8 of them), I based them on my few remaining poker chips I purchased from Asda many years ago. I added a small 7mm dice frame just in case they may be used for other rulesets that track casualties. I also painted a Front Rank standard bearer, he's from their WotR range, they sent him by mistake but I liked the figure I decided to keep him. I also managed to paint a Fleur-de-lis on his coat.
